Saint Patrick's Weekly Reminders
January 17, 2013
Please join us for worship this Sunday at 8:30 or 10:30 a.m. Christian Education classes for children take place during the first half of the 10:30 a.m. service.  Our newly-revamped adult Christian Education program takes place from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.

A Timely Note on Passing the Peace. Passing the peace is an essential element of our liturgy.  The ritual allows us to prayerfully extend a wish for the presence of God's peace in one another's lives.  It is a symbolic reminder to release all of our grievances in life, to forgive and love everyone unconditionally.  The peace is an important preparatory act to receive God's eucharistic grace. With that said, a special note is warranted this time of year.  Though the customary means of passing the peace is through a handshake or hug, please be respectful of those concerned about the flu season.  To this end, a number of alternative ways to extend the peace have evolved in our community.  All of them are aligned with the spirit of wishing one another God's peace, and are therefore liturgically permissible.  These include a hand wave, the 60's peace sign (two finger making a 'V'), a prayerful bow and the 'elbow bump.'  In the end, it doesn't matter how we pass the peace.  It just matters that we do it!

"The Wired Word":  A New Adult Formation Offering begins this Sunday, January 20th We are offering a unique, new Adult Education opportunity.  Using a weekly curriculum entitled the "The Wired Word," participants will engage current events in the news.  The class will primarily be discussion oriented, but will be guided by specific scriptural and theological considerations led by an assigned facilitator.  Each lesson is self contained, so drop-in participation is welcomed as much as weekly participation.  Participants need not come prepared; however, news topics, scriptural references and discussion questions will be advertised in the Weekly Reminders preceding each class.  Beginning today, simply click the new link entitled "The Wired Word" found at the top left of each Weekly Reminders.   Additionally, printed copies may be found in the narthex by the preceding Tuesday.  Class facilitators for the spring session are Raleigh Baker, Sigrid Gimla and Sandy Palmer.  Please consider joining us for this exciting new journey, meeting in the Sanctuary at 9:30 a.m.

There will be a youth meeting this Sunday, January 20th for all youth in grades 6th through 12th and their friends. The meeting is held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Dinner is provided.

All of the members of The Appetizers Book Club want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who helped us welcome Josephine Hicks to St. Patrick's!  There were so many acts of help and support given to us during the weeks before the event, to say nothing of the help to transform the Sanctuary into a Parish Hall and back again.  And the turnout was wonderful --- all together there were over 70 of the Saint Patrick family and some friends who attended.  We could not have done it without each and every one of you.  Thank you for spending your time, talent and gifts both for and with us.   Sincerely yours, The Appetizers Book Club
