IFFGD and DHA Joint Logo

We are all about sharing information this month. It is an important part of what we do at IFFGD, whether helping to inform healthcare professionals on the latest developments in GI or working to provide those personally affected by functional GI and motility disorders with information to better understand their conditions. Information is key. This is also why we work so hard to advocate for increased research so that more can be learned about these disorders. So, enjoy a little of the information we have to share and have a great week!

Common questions about FAPS

Functional abdominal pain syndrome, or FAPS, is a less common functional GI disorder where abdominal pain is chronic or keeps coming back, but is not associated with changes in bowel pattern. Learn more about FAPS in our commonly asked questions series.

Anti-inflammatories and the Gut

More than 70 million prescriptions are written in the US each year for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Also known as NSAIDs, these kinds of drugs include things like aspirin, hydrocortisone, prednisone, and betamethasone. NSAIDs relieve pain and can be good for the joints - but are they bad for the gut?

More from DHA Advocacy Day 2014

DHA Advocacy Day was amazing and we were thrilled to bring patients and healthcare professionals from many walks of life together to advocate on behalf of those affected by functional GI and motility disorders. And since we left Washington, DC last month, three more Congressional Representatives have signed on as cosponsors of the FGIMD Research Enhancement Act:
Rep. Richard Neal of Massachusetts,Rep. David Price of North Carolina, and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter of New Hampshire. Way to go advocates!

Be sure to check out the DHA Facebook page for photos from our trip to see our advocates in action!
IFFGD, a nonprofit organization, and its grassroots arm, the Digestive Health Alliance (DHA), rely on donor support to fund research and to provide reliable information and support to those affected by functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders.
