Our House, our drop-in center that has helped so many of our homeless friends save their own lives.
As you read last week,
Our House, the region's only drop-in center specifically designed for homeless persons, has lost the HUD funding that got it started five-and-a-half years ago and has allowed us to have a paid staff. The program will be out of money at the end of April. But, that does not mean we'll be out of business. Funding or not, Our House must remain open. People's lives depend on it.
One of our friends responded to the news with "I wish I could raise my magic money wand for you . . .." God must have heard her because the next day, the offer of the grant came through. It's simple - for every dollar you contribute, the Foundation will give us a dollar. . . Your one dollar donation will "magically" become two dollars toward the cause . . . $20 become $40 and so on until $3,000 in contributions from you and folks you know becomes $6,000. That's two full months of operation! Exciting.
