Pathways to Wellness The theme for this year's Mental Health Month, "Pathways to Wellness" is a positive way of reminding us all to take an inventory of our lives, our activities, our stress levels, our tendency to be overwhelmed at times. Wellness is defined as an "active process of becoming aware of making choices towards a more successful existence." Pathways to wellness can be as simple as keeping good friends close, eating one less cookie, walking instead of driving, or showing gratitude. More specific pathways to wellness may be looking closely at our physical and mental health. Our confidential on-line depression screen is a good way to start. Visit the Mental Health America website as well as the Pathways Link for helpful information and many simple ways to begin or stay on the "Pathway to Wellness". |

Volunteerism in Action
2013 Project Vision
Every year, our same loyal group return to Nurture Home for Aiken's version of "This Old House". We are fortunate to have a group who are so committed to volunteering through our United Way to make sure Nurture Home continues to be a place of safety and solace for homeless women and children. Thank you for all the painting, sanding, relocating of heavy doors, mending fences, building kitchen cabinets and so much more. Your work helps us make Nurture Home feel like a home, not a shelter.
We have a new Welcome Baby volunteer, Lynette Kruse. Not only is she a smiling face for new mothers; but, she's already donating blankets. We welcome Lynette!
The Ladies of Grace at Solid Rock Baptist Church entertained our Operation Santa friends with a picnic, free haircuts, eyeglass repairs and "glamour shots". What a simple, but special act of volunteerism!

Aiken's Cookin'...2012 Aiken Standard Best Fundraising Event
Terri Schilling and her sisters were winners in the Dessert category last year and have been chefs for many years! If you've never sampled their special sweets, you are truly missing out! Visit their display on June 7th at The Willcox for Aiken's Cookin' with Celebrity Chefs 2013 and you'll see what I mean! Not only do we have the best "Celebrity" chefs in Aiken County, we have a Silent Auction and "entertaining" displays of competitive themes. Tickets are $50.00 and include beverages.
Please support our work by purchasing a ticket to the event, either on-line at mha-aiken.org, at our office at 233 Pendleton St. NW, or at Tea Garden Gifts or Material Things. Aiken's Cookin' with Celebrity Chefs proceeds go directly to our programs that become more critical every day. It's a great way to kick off your summer with friends, old and new! See you there!
