Are You Ready to Make a Clean, Green Difference?

Then grab your work gloves! This spring, your community needs you to join the Great American CleanupTM by participating in a pick-up, clean-up or green-up project near you.  Events are being held throughout Hampton Roads from March through May, and there's something for all ages and abilities. Come as an individual, group or business. All are welcome! Check for events in your city to find a project that interests you-and check back often as new ones will continue to be added over the next few weeks.

Participating in the Great American Cleanup is a chance for Hampton Roads as a region to do our part to "Keep America Beautiful," while contributing to transformational projects we can enjoy in our own communities and neighborhoods.

The Great American Cleanup is a Keep America Beautiful initiative and is the largest grassroots community involvement program in the United States. Last year, Hampton Roads' two-day regional cleanup event had over 1,700 volunteers at 92 sites. And guess what they did?

  • They picked up 124,862 pounds of litter and debris 
  • They planted 86 trees and 818 plants and shrubs 
  • They painted 248 structures 
  • They collected 515 pounds of household hazardous waste
