Gorilla Doctors continues to provide Ndakasi, Ndeze, and Maisha, the three mountain gorilla orphans housed at DR Congo's Senkwekwe Center, with ongoing medical care. On February 27, Drs. Mike, Dawn, Eddy and Martin were scheduled to drive to Rumangabo to conduct their annual exams. However, fighting amongst the M23 rebel group broke out two days prior very close to the Senkwekwe Center, and 22 people reportedly lost their lives. Virunga National Park Chief Park Warden Emmanuel De Merode made the decision to postpone the orphan exams for security purposes. All three mountain gorillas and the two infant Grauer's gorillas are safe at the center at this time and Gorilla Doctors will travel to Rumangabo as soon as security allows.
