Babies Isangi and Baraka have completed their three months in quarantine at the Senkwekwe Center in Rumangabo, DRC and their final exams confirm that both are in good health and are developing normally. Genetic testing is being completed to determine that the infants are in fact Grauer's gorillas. Once this is complete, plans will be made to move the infants to the GRACE center, a unique facility in DRC that cares for Grauer's gorillas orphaned by poachers. Drs. Eddy & Martin Trek to Mt. Tshiabirimu Group
The North Sector of Virunga National Park has been occupied by rebel groups for the past eight months, preventing Gorilla Doctors veterinarians from being able to monitor the Grauer's gorillas on Mt. Tshiabirimu. Drs. Eddy and Martin trekked to Kipura group recently to perform a Routine Health Check of the remaining four gorillas. Read More

Health Conditions Assessed of DRC Gorillas
After four months without access to several mountain gorilla groups in Virunga National Park due to rebel activity in the area, Gorilla Doctors trekked in to visit Humba group following a report by the Chief Park Warden that two females had health issues needing a veterinary assessment. A fight broke out in Nkuringo group
in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on December 7 and an older mother, Kasotora, was injured in the process. Dr. Fred trekked

Silverback Kanyonyi, leader of Mubare group in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, was injured in a fight with a wild gorilla group on November 14. Deep lacerations on his wrists had become infected and Dr. Fred treated the silverback with an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drug and pain killers to help speed the healing process.
