Don't rely upon cheap, inexperienced technical support: "You get what you pay for"

The "Heartbleed bug" is a flaw in the OpenSSL encryption standard that is used by half a million websites which was uncovered on April 7. A majority of websites that require passwords for access use OpenSSL encryption to "scramble" the data transferred between your computer and the website's server. OpenSSL has since been patched and millions of websites - many that you likely use - are being updated and new encryption certificates and keys are being issued.

Windows XP now more vulnerable to internet attacks - what you should do if you still have XP
On April 8 Microsoft ended support of Windows XP, the operating system that ran on the majority of personal computers for 13 years. Since Windows XP was released in 2001, Microsoft released and continues to support Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Now that Windows XP is no longer supported, that means that Microsoft will no longer release monthly critical security updates that patch the operating system to help prevent hackers from getting into the computer if connected to the internet.

Virus and malware authors have reportedly been working on infections that target vulnerabilities in Windows XP that will no longer be patched.

The average lifespan of computer hardware is about 5 years, so a computer with Windows XP is well past its lifespan. Now is the time to upgrade and get a new computer. Fortunately you won't have to pay as much for a new computer as your old one since prices have come down over the years.

Do you have a friend or neighbor who works with computers in their spare time? Similar to hiring an unlicensed contractor to work on your home, it may be cheap to go with a friend or neighbor.

But, does that person actively keep up-to-date with the computer industry and fix several computers on a daily basis like we do?

Computer Techs has been in business since 2003, and our technicians have over 20 years of computer experience. We are often called to finish repairing what someone else didn't fix correctly.

The next time you need tech support give us a call. You can count on Computer Techs to get the job done quickly and correctly, and we'll be available the next time you need service.
