Monthly Newsletter
May 2013
In the past month we've received several calls from clients who haven't read this monthly newsletter, and they were each bilked out of hundreds of dollars by scammers using common computer scams. One such scam - a call from someone claiming to be from "Microsoft" - was recorded and can be viewed in the video in the right column of this newsletter.

Do yourself a favor by printing the list of computer scams and post it by your computer(s). Do your friends a favor by forwarding this newsletter to them.

AT&T has announced a June upgrade to their web mail that may include a security feature used by most other email services that encrypts email over the internet between Yahoo's servers and your computer. The option to "turn on SSL" would help prevent the account hacking problem that currently plagues the email service. As such, you may want to hold off on switching away from using AT&T/Yahoo Mail (that was recommended in last month's newsletter) until the upgrade has completed to see if extra security has been enabled...
Microsoft has started automatically updating their web browser to Internet Explorer version 10 (on Windows 7 and Vista only). IE10 is more secure and has a more simplistic interface - the menus, toolbars and buttons are hidden when first installed. This is a drastic change from earlier versions of Internet Explorer and you might miss the various toolbars. To display the Menu, Command, Status, or Favorites bar, simply right-click an empty area next to a tab and check which items(s) you want displayed...
In April 2014, Microsoft will end support of Windows XP. The 12-year-old operating system was the standard operating system offered on new PCs from 2001 through 2007. A Windows XP computer won't just stop working in April 2014, but the absence of monthly critical security updates will make it more susceptible to getting viruses and malware that can steal your personal information if the computer is continued to be connected to the internet.

Cheap Unlicensed Computer Repair -

"You Get What You Pay For"

Do you have a friend or neighbor who works with computers in their spare time? Do they actively keep-up with the computer industry and fix computers on a daily basis like we do?

Computer Techs has been in business since 2003, and our technicians have over 20 years of computer experience.

Our calls for service have leveled off in the past few years due to an abundance of new inexperienced and unlicensed computer repair people. Similar to hiring an unlicensed contractor to work on your home, it may be cheaper to go with someone else in the short term. However, you can count on Computer Techs to get the job done quickly and correctly, and we'll be available the next time you need service. We are often called to finish repairing what someone else didn't fix correctly.

We appreciate referrals

If you're happy with our professionalism and expert service, please let others know:

· If you recommend us to a friend or family member, as a way of saying "thank you" for referring us we will reward you with a discount on your next service call. For details please see the details of our $20 referral reward.
