Let's Talk about the Future "Look" of Downtown Newton!

Newton Public Library
Everyone is welcome to attend a special public meeting with our Main Street Design Committee featuring Tim Reinders, the Main Street Design Specialist from the Main Street State Office. We'll meet at the Newton Library and talk about the future "look" of Downtown and how building and business owners can benefit from the Main Street Design process.

Welcome Andrew!
This may be old news by now, but we are very excited about Andrew Bassman, our new Main Street Director.  Learn more about him in this LINK and watch for more Main Street News from our special Main Street E-Blasts.  The Main Street Board is doing a great job and exciting things are in store for Downtown Newton.

Thanks Darrell!
Welcome Back Craig!

Our Chamber Board presented our outgoing Director Darrell Sarmento with a special plaque to thank him for 4 years of outstanding leadership as our Chamber Director.  Darrell will begin his new position with Newton Manufacturing on June 2nd.

The Board has decided to take their time replacing Darrell and has
asked Craig Light to step in as Interim Chamber Director.
Craig was also the Interim Chamber Director of the Newton Chamber in 2010.  Welcome back Craig!  As a member, as office manager and as the 2009 Urbandale Chamber of Commerce President, Craig has had extensive involvement with the Greater Des Moines Partnership and many other area Chambers.  Within the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce, has been honored as their "Volunteer of the Year" in 2005 and "Ambassador of the Year" 2004, 2006 and 2007.  Now, he is looking forward to utilizing this experience to serve the Newton Chamber of Commerce in the greatest possible manner while the Board continues to search for your next Executive Director.  Here's Craig "shopping local" and making a purchase at Laurie Nelson's Relics Antiques and he is looking forward to meeting everyone again and shopping local with our Chamber members.

LINKS to Business Blogs & Resources
This list changes now and then but these are great resources for anyone running a business or organization, small or large, for profit or not-for-priofit.

Co-author of "The Go-Giver", one of our recommended books.  It's all about doing business with those you know, like and trust.  If you are in sales or want to understand the power of networking, this is a great blog.

If you want to be remarkable, Seth will help you get started.  We recommended his book "The Big Moo" but he has much more to say.  Great for marketing ideas too.

Facebook? Twitter?  You'll find resources, links and articles for all of the all the latest tips and trends in social media.

Why do many small businesses fail?  Michael Gerber wrote a book called the E-Myth (The Entrepreneaur Myth - Voted #1 business book by Inc. 500 CEOs.) to examine that fact, and he's been coaching hundreds ever since.
