STREET
UPDATE
Let's take a Good Downtown and Make it GREAT!

Signed, Sealed and Delivered!

We delivered our Main Street Application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority Office in Des Moines on Thursday afternoon (one day early!).  To appreciate the extensive detail of the application, we had to turn it in using a 2 inch 3 Ring binder! This picture shows our Chamber Director Darrell Sarmento and Newton Planning & Zoning Director Erin Chambers turning in the application to Darlene Strachan with the Main Street Program.  Below are a couple pics of our Main Street Team preparing the application.  Click on each pic for more.

Pledge Update
We've updated our pledge list once again to the right. Pledges highlighted in yellow are our most recent pledges or a couple we missed last time. We'll continue to update and correct it the list. If you don't see your pledge or we listed you incorrectly, let us know. Thank you so much to everyone!

When will we Know?!
On January 16th we will make a presentation before a 15 member Main Street Committee as to why Newton is 100% ready to work together and utilize the Main Street Program and approach to Downtown Revitalization, Economic Development partnered with Historical Preservation.  We will be notified of their decision in early February.

Can you still Pledge!
Yes!  The goal we set was the minimum we need to have our application accepted.  The more pledges we have, the more we can accomplish.  We'll give a Pledge Update to the Iowa Main Street Board on January 16th when we make a presentation to them.  More on that later!

Congratulations to our Newton Hy-Vee who won the Retail Award at our Chamber Awards last week. They made a $2000 per year pledge to Main Street!

Pledge Goal Met!!!
We have met our financial pledge goal to submit our application to the Main Street Iowa Program!  In fact, we've slightly exceeded it.  The adjusted pledge goal of $85,000 includes some generous In-kind donations we received which will help towards advertising and special projects (thank you to the Newton Daily News, GoodRadio.TV, & SignPro). Bottom line, we have hit our goal and we will be submitting our application to the Iowa Economic Development Authority in Des Moines on Thursday afternoon, Dec 12th. (one day early!). We'll keep you updated on our next steps in this process.

Chamber Radio Show

KCOB
Our Chamber radio show airs every Friday morning at 8:40 AM on KCOB 1280 AM.  You can also link to the archives to hear the show anytime!  We'll keep this link on our Chamber E-blasts for your convenience.  A new show will be posted every Friday.  If you are interested in sponsoring the show, contact the radio station at (641) 792-5262.  Sponsors will have the opportunity to be interviewed on one of the shows.  Special thanks to KCOB and the staff at GoodRadio.TV for being a great community partner and taking the lead to launch this project.
LINKS to Business Blogs & Resources
This list changes now and then but these are great resources for anyone running a business or organization, small or large, for profit or not-for-priofit.

Co-author of "The Go-Giver", one of our recommended books.  It's all about doing business with those you know, like and trust.  If you are in sales or want to understand the power of networking, this is a great blog.

If you want to be remarkable, Seth will help you get started.  We recommended his book "The Big Moo" but he has much more to say.  Great for marketing ideas too.

Facebook? Twitter?  You'll find resources, links and articles for all of the all the latest tips and trends in social media.

Why do many small businesses fail?  Michael Gerber wrote a book called the E-Myth (The Entrepreneaur Myth - Voted #1 business book by Inc. 500 CEOs.) to examine that fact, and he's been coaching hundreds ever since.
