Proposed New 2015 Building Codes Adoption Schedule

The International Code Council (ICC) has released the new 2015 International Building Codes. In line with building and maintaining a safer San Antonio, it is Development Services' goal to update the City's building-related, fire and property maintenance codes this year to ensure their implementation in spring 2015.

The Development Services Department (DSD) will adopt the following codes:

  •  2015 International Building Code, IBC
  •  2015 International Existing Building Code, IEBC
  •  2015 International Residential Code, IRC
  •  2015 International Fire Code, IFC
  •  2015 International Mechanical Code, IMC
  •  2015 International Plumbing Code, IPC
  •  2015 International Fuel Gas Code, IFGC
  •  2015 International Energy Conservation Code, IECC
  •  2014 National Electrical Code, NEC
  •  2015 International Property Maintenance Code, IPMC

The proposed 2014 timeline for this initiative is outlined below:

  • August-October - hold open public hearings and meeting with various development and neighborhood stakeholder groups throughout Building-related and Fire Appeals and Advisory Board (Super Board) and Building Standards Board (BSB) code review subcommittees
  • October to present - submit proposed amendments to the codes listed above to the full Super Board and BSB for their review and vote
  • November to present - submit proposed building-related and fire code amendments to the Infrastructure and Growth committee and present the proposed property maintenance code to the Quality of Life committee
  • December - submit the RFCA for all updated codes to City Council for adoption

Adhering to this timeline, DSD can announce the new building-related, fire and property maintenance codes in March 2015.
