A Message From Mrs. Carter

Parents,

The students and teachers have been working very hard these last few weeks of the second quarter. Last week our fifth grade chorus students performed the winter concert called "A Very Special Holiday." It was outstanding! I hope some of you had an opportunity to see it.

I know that some parents were in our building yesterday and experienced first-hand what we do when we move into a lock down. Hopefully, all parents felt informed about the lock down that took place this past Thursday. I sent out two text message alerts, two email messages using our electronic newsletter, and our Facebook page also had updates. In addition, I sent home a half sheet note explaining the reason for the lock down. If you are not signed up for these communication notifications, please go to our school web site and look for the sign up information on the home page. Text message alerts are the quickest way for us to get information to you. Please also know there is a limit on the length of the text message the app allows us to send. The electronic newsletter called the Giddy Up is a way for us to communicate more lengthy information. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to sign up.

As we begin our winter break, I want to express my appreciation to all of you for your support of our school, students, and staff members. I hope you and your family have a wonderful winter break. Enjoy this time with your family and friends. We look forward to seeing you in 2015.

Sincerely,

Cheri Carter

Principal

The Flu! Stay Informed!

The 2014-15 flu season has begun. Experts from The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

recommend an annual flu vaccine as the first and best way to protect against influenza. It's not too late to get a flu shot. This year, the nation has a plentiful supply of flu vaccine available, so consider getting a shot for yourself and your family members, especially those with asthma and other chronic illnesses. Health officials encourage families to take precautions to limit the spread of illness, including washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home and keeping ill children home when flu-like and other cold symptoms appear.
If your child has flu-like symptoms, please contact your physician or health clinic for recommendations. The flu may last 7-10 days. If your child has a fever, they must be kept home. They must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication prior to returning to school. Please refer to the "staying healthy during flu and cold season" attachment for tips on flu prevention.

We appreciate your efforts in helping us keep our students well and healthy!
