TEACHER OF THE YEAR
TOP 6 FINALIST
Congratulations to Dr. Sharon Smith!

On Thursday, members of the Selection Committee for Gwinnett County's Teacher of the Year surprised Dr. Smith to announce she is a finalist. A team of videographers and a group of students sneaked into her classroom with balloons, flowers, and signs of congratulations. Dr. Smith was shocked to hear she was among the Top 6. Of course, this is no surprise to Brookwood!! Next week the selection committee will conduct an on-site classroom observation and interview. The Elementary Teacher of the Year will be announced on November 11. We wish Dr. Smith luck, and she is without a doubt a winner!!

Thank You PTA & Parents!

Thank you PTA & parents for organizing and decorating the Brookwood Elementary Homecoming float! The parade was great, and the students had fun!

Practice Evacuation Drill - Oct. 17

Brookwood Elementary teachers, students, and support staff members will be participating in an evacuation practice on Friday, Oct.17th. Practicing an evacuation is part of our safety and security plan. We will evacuate the building just as we would for a fire drill. Then we will proceed up the sidewalk to the parking lot of the Brookwood Manor recreation area. Gwinnett County buses will be there for students and teachers to board and will return everyone to Brookwood Elementary. It is important for us to practice so that we can make any adjustments to our safety and security plan based on this experience. Please let your students know that this is only a practice and it that is our way to make sure everyone is safe and knows what to do. Please do not plan to check in or check out your students between 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 17th, as all staff members will be evacuating with us. Thank you for your understanding as we work to improve our safety and security plan.

The Georgia Milestones Assessment

Spring, 2015

The State of Georgia is replacing the CRCT with the Georgia Milestones Assessment beginning in the spring of 2015. The Georgia Milestones Assessment will be given in grades 3, 4, & 5. Since this will be the first year of the Georgia Milestones Assessment, individual student data will be delayed. This means that more than likely, we will not get student results until after school is out and possibly not until the fall of 2015. So for the 2014-2015 school year, there will not be any state promotion requirements based on the Georgia Milestones Assessment. Attached is an information sheet about the Georgia Milestones. More detailed information can be found on the Georgia Department of Education website at www.gadoe.org. As we are learning more and more about the new assessment system, please know that we are working very hard to make sure our students are prepared. Information GA Milestones pdf
