Teacher Of The Year
Dr. Sharon Smith

Each fall local schools nominate colleagues for Teacher of the Year. This year more than a dozen Brookwood Elementary teachers were nominated, and we are proud of our top 3 nominees: Jennifer Klaas-Taylor, Debbie Leonard, and Dr. Sharon Smith. Both Jennifer and Debbie have been on the Top 3 ballot together before. These sisters are amazing!!

On Tuesday we congratulated Dr. Sharon Smith as our 2015 Teacher of the Year! She has been teaching at Brookwood since 2008 and has earned degrees from The University of Georgia and Mercer University.  When asked about her philosophy and beliefs about teaching, Dr. Smith wrote, "We live in an age in which almost anything is possible and yet nothing is certain. As an educator, I am committed to facing this reality by preparing my students to be global citizens. I am always challenging my students and myself to see beyond "what is" towards "what could be". My goal is for each student to be a life-long learner and to make a conscious decision that they can and will make a positive difference in the world."  Dr. Smith will be honored in November at Gwinnett County's Teacher of the Year banquet. We could not be more proud of our Brookwood Teacher of the Year!

Way To Go Izzie & Jack Johnson!

Jack, a kindergartner in Mrs. Patterson's class, competed in the Atlanta Kids triathlon. It consisted of 600+ kids. Jack came in 5th for his age group. He loved it! This is Jack's fourth triathlon and has competed in several mountain bike races as well!
Izzie, a second grader in Mrs. Dubose's class, recently competed in the 2014 Hy-Vee Kids Triathlon National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa. She placed 16th in the NATION!!!!! There were over 800 kids who had to qualify to compete at Nationals. It also consisted of an open water swim in a lake; a first for Izzie but she was excited and did great!
