Jon Cone's Piezography Workshop in Santa Fe, New Mexico: October 14 - 18

This October, I am again teaching a Piezography workshop in Santa Fe and it is a must-attend if you want to get your hands into ink, make lots of Piezography prints, and be in a most amazing setting with wonderful people and really good food.

The 2012 Piezography Workshop

I've known Don for some time now and blogged about his safe polymer photogravure process here. Don has now added lots of great digital equipment to the studio. There will be six printers to share - all five of the usual Piezography inks - and custom mixtures which you can make as your own with simple blending recipes.

In addition to Photoshop, I focus on LightRoom as a useful Piezography printmaking tool - as well as how to circumvent some of its limitations. There will be good reasons why both apps can work hand-in-hand to "superlatize" your output. In general, Piezography is the only true black & white printmaking system capable of reproducing the tens of thousands of gray levels of a 16bit raw grayscale image. Epson ABW is only capable of producing hundreds of gray levels. So working with raw files and Piezography is a natural pairing.

If you're not working raw - Piezography still produces tens of thousands of gray levels. With a scanned negative, Piezography is capable of producing significantly more tone than you can in the darkroom. If you're on the fence - and at the same time you want to learn everything there is to know - this is the workshop for you!

Piezography and workshops makes people hungry and there is plenty of wonderful food in Santa Fe. I really do teach cooking traditional paella and we really will celebrate the workshop finale that way. The Piezography paella includes Santa Fe green chile and Santa Fe chorizo. Last year we sources responsibly farmed seafood. The organic rice and hand-picked saffron! Yummo...

But, don't come for the food. Come to learn as much as possible about the ultimate alternative printmaking process: Piezography. You can enjoy working with the five straight ink sets as well as blending your own "Special Edition". I will be bringing some suggested ink recipes with me. If you're adventurous, feel free to mix them and try them.

And if you are outdoor adventurous, Santa Fe has tons to offer. Most people taking this workshop plan some additional time for canyon hiking or side trips.

Now here is the important thing! You can't sign up for this workshop on InkjetMall or even by calling InkjetMall. The only place that you can sign up for this workshop is at MakingArtSafely - and the link to the sign up page is right here.

I'll even show you my work on the thick handmade papers I use!
...and of course teach you the fine art of traditional paella

So, I hope you will join me in Santa Fe this Summer for what can only be a most wonderful workshop experience!

Happy Printing!
