Updates and Activity
BNSF Intermodal Progress
The BNSF held a "Sneak Peek" event at the Logistics Park KC (LPKC) early this month and about 200 people attended.  NorthPoint Development was introduced as the firm that will develop the approximately 550 acres adjacent to the intermodal at LPKC.  For current information go to www.logisticsparkkc.com

NorthPoint Development of Kansas City is replacing the California firm originally chosen to develop the new BNSF intermodal facility and plans to start work soon on its first distribution center.  "NorthPoint will be the lead developer, and we'll be an investor in the project and remain involved."   Richard Allen, chief executive of the Allen Group, said Friday.

A new entity called Edgerton Land Holding Co. has been formed between NorthPoint and the Allen Group.  Nathaniel Hagedorn, president and CEO of NorthPoint, said his firm plans to break ground on a 500,000 square-foot speculative building in the next 30 days and have it ready by the time the BNSF intermodal facility opens this fall.  Full Article (The Kansas City Star - April 5, 2013)

Mega-Warehouses
A new generation of huge distribution centers is sprouting from the fields of far southwest Johnson County along the Interstate 35 corridor, confirming Kansas City's arrival as a major national logistical hub.  The biggest, a more than 8 million square feet of buildings is expected in the first phase of the new BNSF Intermodal center. Full Article

Southwest Johnson County Area Plan

Southwest Johnson County will soon be home to the 1,000 acre BNSF Intermodal Facility and Logistics Park which includes plans for up to seven million square feet of distribution center and warehouse facilities on site, with the potential for additional distribution centers, warehouses and other truck oriented development.  With the potential development, the cities of Gardner and Edgerton, Johnson County, Kansas Department of Transportation and MARC (Mid-America Regional Council) are sponsoring the Southwest Plan.  This will help to identify development potential and assist planning for future infrastructure needs.  The process is being coordinated by Felsburg Holt & Ullevig, a consulting firm from Omaha.

The completion of the Southwest Johnson County Area Plan is scheduled prior to the opening of the BNSF Intermodal Facility in the fall of 2013.  Key milestone dates include a draft report in Spring 2013 and a final report in the summer.

Project contacts include Kimberly Qualls, NE Kansas Public Affairs Manager of KDOT and Kyle Anderson, Project Manager of Felsburg Holt & Ullevig, (402) 445-4405. Full Article
