Children's Chapel to Start This Week!

Children's Chapel

March 9, 2014 10:00 AM

Children's Chapel for Sunday School age children begins this Sunday at 10:00 am in the Chapel. Sunday School students should go directly to the chapel and not to their Sunday School classrooms. The children will return to the church to join their families for the celebration of the Holy Communion.

Please note:

There is no change to the 9:00 am Family Service.

Our Lenten Journey in Music

On Lent I, Sunday March 9, the combined choirs of Saint Peter's will present Buxtehude's setting of "Jesu, Meine Freude"  (Jesus, My Joy) at the 10:00 am Eucharist. The short work is scored for SAB chorus, 2 soprano and 1 bass soloist, 2 violins and continuo.

The text of the six verses is well exemplified and "painted" by the musical motives.

Arts & Crafts Coffee Hour, March 9

All artists and crafters are welcome to exhibit their work during coffee hour.  Art is beauty, and beauty is from God. Participants include knitters, hookers (rugs that is!), beaders, scrappers, painters.

Come one, come all! Please email Stephanie if you are interested in participating.
Discipleship Thank You
Dear St. Peter's Parishioners,

Through January, 160 families had responded to the Discipleship campaign. My heartfelt thanks to you all for your generous effort! 56 families increased their pledges, there are 14 new pledging families, and 7 families that had pledged previously to St Peter's have again done so. I had pledged to send out coffee cards to those that increased their pledges, did not know that many folks like Starbucks!

It was indeed a pleasure to have been your Chair, I met so many wonderful people, renewed relationships with those I normally do not see and I look forward to doing it again this fall.

All the Best!
John Van Etten

Discipleship ...
All that we do, with all that we have, all of the time.
Lenten Study
Silence  is a 1966 novel of historical fiction by Japanese author Shusaku Endō. It is the story of a Jesuit missionary sent to 17th century Japan, who endured persecution in the time of Kakure Kirishitan ("Hidden Christians") that followed the defeat of the Shimabara Rebellion. It  has been called "Endo's supreme achievement" and "one of the twentieth century's finest novels."

Written partly in the form of a letter by its central character, the theme of a silent God who accompanies a believer in adversity was greatly influenced by the Catholic Endō's experience of religious discrimination in Japan, racism in France, and a debilitating bout with tuberculosis. The novel thus explores the silence of God in the midst of suffering.

There will be two groups: Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the parish office and Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the parish office.

If you would like to order a copy of the book, please

Parenting Issues Survey

Dear St. Peter's Parishioners,

With respect to the great turnout of the 5 Wishes program last Fall, the Health and Healing Ministry would like to plan a program for this coming Fall dealing with the challenges parents face today in raising a well-rounded and confident child. In order to scale the program in a feasible manner, we need your input!

Please email us with your TOP 3 concerns regarding raising children today and what obstacles you feel may get in the way. What challenges do you have? Is social media a negative tool?

Please make sure you email your responses to me. In order to start planning the program and its main focus, the responses should be received by March 31.

Thank you in advance for your participation,

Sherry Walz-Eisenhardt

Save the Date for VBS

It's hard to believe, but Vacation Bible School 2014 is less than six months away! Isn't it nice to imagine those warm summer days as we watch the snow pile up outside?

Saint Peter's will once again team with Caldwell United Methodist Church as West Essex VBS, and this year our theme will be Workshop of Wonders. VBS will be held at Caldwell United Methodist Church August 4-8. Please save the dates!
