All new SU students are expected to take all applicable placement examinations before registering for classes.  Each school or college requires different placement exams, so be sure to check with them to see what you need to take!

Math Placement Exam:  If you wish to take or need to register for a math class, you must take the placement exam available at myslice.syr.edu.

Foreign Language Placement Exams:  If you have any previous instruction in, or personal experience with a language and plan to continue studies in that language, you must take the appropriate foreign language placement examination.  French, German, Hebrew, Italian, and Spanish exams are available at myslice.syr.edu.  Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Russian, and Southeast Asian languages are offered in-person on Friday, August 23rd.

English Language Assessment Exam:  Non-native speakers of English must take the English Language Assessment Exam.

New Student Send Offs
Meet people coming to SU from your area!

It won't be long before you're headed to Syracuse University and starting life as a college student.  Want to make that leap a little easier?  Join us at a New Student Send-Off in your area, and you'll meet new friends before you even arrive on campus!

At this fun, informal gathering, you'll get to know other new students from your area.  Current students and alumni will also be on hand to answer your questions, provide the inside scoop on what to expect during your first few weeks at SU, and give you your first dose of Orange spirit.  Parents are invited, too, so be sure to let them know!

How to Ship Your Stuff

If you want your items delivered directly to your room, Lazybones, Syracuse University's official storage and shipping company can help you ship your belongings to SU.  Ship boxes to them this summer, and they will store the boxes and then deliver them directly to your residence hall room before you arrive. Your boxes will be sitting in your room waiting when you get to campus.

This service is $25 for any box under 15,000 cubic inches. Boxes must arrive between July 1 and August 5.  To use Lazybones, set up a storage account at www.mylazybones.com or by calling 877-215-2105. Then ship your boxes to the address they provide.

Learn your SU Traditions!
Crouse Chimes

The Crouse Chimes were first installed in 1889 and renovated in 1981, the Crouse Chimes are rung at least twice a day and again on special occasions. John Crouse purchased the bells on May 25, 1889, from the Meneely Bell Company in Troy, NY. For 54 years, the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity played them, including playing the Alma Mater at 5 p.m. every day.
