Trustees adopt budget for 2016-17

Tuesday night the Ector County ISD school board approved the budget for the 2016-17 school year. Trustees voted 7-0 to approve a total general fund budget of a little over $229 million, approximately $379,000 more than last year. The increase comes from personnel costs: a $500 Step increase for all employees on the Teacher Salary Schedule, a slight increase in the pay schedule for bus drivers, and stipend adjustments.

The school board also approved - as required by law - a food service budget of about $16.1 million (a decrease of more than $888,000) and a debt service budget of $14.1 million (down just over $4 million) for a total of more than $259 million which is $4.5 million less than last year's total adopted budget. ECISD is estimating a loss of revenue due to lower tax appraisals and an expected drop in student enrollment.
Camp SIP went full STEAM ahead in June!

Camp SIP was back with a STEAM theme this year! STEAM is science, technology, engineering, art, and math and those were the foundations of the nine summer camp courses offered during Camp SIP which ran from June 13-23 this year.

SIP stands for Scholars in Progress, the Gifted/Talented program run by the Ector County ISD Advanced Academic Services Department. This camp challenges students with many project-based activities focusing on concepts that affect us here locally as well as globally. Camp SIP students have completed grades 1-4, and are working in multi-age groups to complete a variety of tasks each day.

School supply lists now available

Are you looking to get a jump on buying school supplies this summer? Those lists are now posted on our school district website. You can follow this link to find your child's list here.

Only the elementary school lists are up right now. If a middle school has a school supply list it will be added when it is ready. High schools do not usually have supply lists; individual teachers will let students know what materials they need during the first week of classes in August.
Read this summer

If you have a student going into Pre-AP English in 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th grade don't forget about the REQUIRED SUMMER READING. The books for each grade are listed on our Ector County ISD webpage under Site Shortcuts on the bottom right side of the page. Here is the link. Click on the icon of the grade your child is entering next year and you will find the assignments that go along with the reading.

Have a safe & happy 4th!

Ector County ISD administrative offices are now operating on Summer Hours meaning they are open longer Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday. Summer Hours run through July 22. The only exception will be for the week of July 4 - Monday is the Fourth of July holiday and all offices will operate on their normal schedule Tuesday through Friday of that week. This means all ECISD administrative offices will be closed July 1 and July 4. Schools that are hosting summer school are open Monday through Friday while summer school is in session.

Have a safe Fourth of July!
