World Class Leader in Education

On May 17 the Ector County ISD Board of Trustees honored Rose Valderaz with the World Class Leader in Education award for May. Rose is a 28 year public school veteran, 21 of those with ECISD. She's worked in many different capacities from the classroom to administration. Currently she is the coordinator for our Teen Parent Related Services, and in that position she makes a difference in the lives of students who can easily be overlooked.

Mrs. Valderaz goes above and beyond in all that she does; always encouraging her team to do the same - to take the extra step and be the best they can be for their students, to make sure those students navigate school successfully. She pushes her team to be aware of their students' situations so they can help.

Mrs. Valderaz was involved in setting up the structure of our Teen Parent services - which includes providing transportation to and from school if needed, day care, tutoring, and many other types of support for the moms and dads - and she works tirelessly to connect community groups that want to help, too. That work keeps her plugged into many organizations outside of ECISD, as she is always looking to make a difference in her community.

Most people figure the teen parent program is all about girls but Mrs. Valderaz works with many teen fathers, too, so they have opportunities to learn parenting skills and continue their education. She does not mind getting the entire household involved in the parenting process with one goal in mind- success!

While her program deals with teen parents she and her team support other students throughout the district, and they are always willing to help former students, too, as they look for assistance with their children who are now in ECISD.  She will reach out to these students and try to guide them in a positive direction or get them help with tutoring or connected with an outside organization. An example: there was a family who was struggling (the father was injured and not able to provide; the mother was able to do only a little to make money; the student was fifteen years old and not able to work yet) and Rose helped this student to get a work permit. Not a teen parent, but a teen and family that needed some help.

ECISD is proud to recognize Rose Valderaz as the World Class Leader in Education for May 2016.
