Magnet Fair highlights schools of choice

What can ECISD's 9 magnet schools offer you? The easiest way to find out is to attend this year's Magnet Fair on Saturday, February 6, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Ector County Coliseum Building G.

These nine elementary schools offer unique programs ranging from dual language instruction to performing arts to childhood engineering to a year-round calendar and more. Principals and teachers from each of the schools will be available that day to give information and answer questions about the various programs. Plan to attend!
School Board looks at college & career readiness

On January 12 the ECISD Board of Trustees got an update on all the ways our school district prepares students for life after high school. The report focused on AVID, Advanced Academics programs like Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate and dual credit, Career & Technical Education courses, and early college high schools. A college degree BEFORE high school graduation

Congratulations to Permian High School senior Kara Williams for taking full advantage of the dual credit program and earning an associate degree from Odessa College before she has even finished high school! Dual credit courses allow students to earn high school credit and college credit at the same time.

Ms. Williams, daughter of OC president Dr. Gregory Williams (they are pictured together), walked the stage at OC's December graduation ceremony with her Associate Degree in Foreign Language becoming the first OC student to complete the associate degree program before high school graduation. She will graduate from high school with Permian's Class of 2016 on June 3.

Education Foundation builds more support for teachers

As the new year begins so does a new initiative from the Education Foundation of Odessa that is designed to help our classroom teachers with the supplies and materials they often buy with their own money. "The idea for the Teacher Assistance Program came out of conversations I had with teachers," said Education Foundation director Celeste Potter. Through T.A.P. teachers can apply for up to $250 each month for supplies that directly impact their daily teaching. Read more about this innovative effort here.

MLK holiday is here

Don't forget all ECISD schools and offices will be closed this Monday, January 18 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
