Permian HS teacher selected for brain mapping project

Earlier this week Permian High School teacher Mike Cashin learned he will be one of only three teachers taking part in a brain mapping pilot project intended to enhance science teaching in the classroom. He'll be traveling to Ashburn, Virginia in January to take part in Project Brain STEM. Here's the story about this amazing opportunity for one of our teachers.

ECISD students sweep OC Weld Off

The goal of career and technical courses is prepare kids for the workforce, and the welding programs in ECISD and at Odessa College do a great job of that. OC recently held its 2nd annual Weld Off for high school students and ECISD kids swept to a number of victories - as you can tell from the photo!

World Class Leader in Education

On December 16, Ector County ISD Trustees honored Roosevelt "JR" Allen as the school district's World Class Leader in Education.

Mr. Allen, who is the head custodian and maintenance man at Nimitz Middle School, has been with ECISD for 28 years, 23 of those at Nimitz. Being the maintenance man and the head custodian is not easy duty; not many can tackle both roles. JR, as he is known, can and he is relentless. He takes pride in his building and facilities, and works tirelessly to ensure Nimitz has the shiniest floors and the building is spotless. The school continuously receives compliments about being the "cleanest!"

JR also serves as a positive role model for students. He takes the time to build relationships with kids. He talks to them, asks them about their classes, grades, athletics, and about their overall happiness. He is often seen giving fist bumps and high fives to students he has connected with and unofficially mentors. Students know he cares for them and their respect for him is evident. He shows kids how much he cares by not just providing a safe, clean environment where students can learn, but by lending an ear to listen and a heart to hear the needs of our kids.

To top it all off, he has never missed a day of work. Ector County ISD is very lucky to have JR as an exceptional employee, and he is deserving of the honor of World Class Leader in Education for December 2015.
