ECISD is still looking for volunteers to help evaluate programs like fine arts, health & PE, and parental involvement. These evaluations are required by the State, and the school district has been holding public meetings in an effort to recruit parents and community members to the 9 subcommittees. The last public meeting will be:

Thursday, November 19, at West Elementary School

If you would like to see the nine areas to be evaluated and how each school scored in those nine areas last year, please follow this link.

Veterans Day Salutes

Schools across our district celebrated Veterans Day in a big way this week! This picture comes from Austin Montessori Magnet Elementary School where kids not only made cards and goody bags for members of our military but also had the chance to share pictures of their special veteran!

We have created an album of Veterans Day pictures on our Ector County ISD Facebook page and we invite you to take a few minutes to look at them!

The call of the Hall!

Congratulations go out to former Odessa High School baseball coach Julian Pressley who will be inducted into the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January! The induction ceremony will take place in January at the THSBCA Convention in Waco. The THSBCA Hall of Fame was established in 1990 to honor those who have made notable and significant contributions to high school baseball in Texas.

Coach Pressley was the head baseball coach at OHS for 12 years winning numerous district championships, and participating in the state baseball tournament three times. The baseball field at OHS is named in his honor. He was the first baseball coach at Odessa College in 1964 and was inducted into the Western Junior College Athletic Conference Hall of Fame in 2012.

Waffles for Wishes

On October 30 Make-a-Wish hosted a community wide fund raiser that had our kids' fingerprints all over it! Waffles for Wishes was held at New Tech Odessa where the students in the culinary arts program cooked the waffles and made-to-order omelets, our horticulture kids created centerpieces for the tables, and our fine arts programs took turns entertaining through music and dance. The well-attended event raised about $5,000 for granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. Well done!
