Students rock Lemonade Day

Odessa's first Lemonade Day was an unqualified success with nearly 250 stands set up all over Odessa. It rained early that morning but the sun came out and made for some great lemonade-selling weather!

First, check out this album of pictures from Lemonade Day

Then check out this album of pictures that tells you about some of the students (and a coach) who won prizes
Walking the walk

The Odessa High School volleyball team took literal steps to prevent suicide when the girls took part in last weekend's suicide prevention walk. Suicide is an issue that has touched the lives of several on the team, including head coach Jessica Olivares. The walk raised more than $14,000. Go Bronchos!

You can see from the picture they were not deterred by the rain, and they are already looking forward to next year's event.

ECISD College Day

The first Wednesday of every month is district-wide College Day in ECISD. Staff and students are encouraged to wear their favorite school's colors that day. It is a simple thing but one that can spark conversations about higher education and helps build our district's college-going culture.

This picture comes from Hays Magnet Elementary School earlier this week but you will find quite a few more by visiting our Ector County ISD Facebook page.

Shigellosis update

The Ector County Health Department continues to see cases of the illness Shigellosis developing in our community. As noted in earlier letters and phone calls to parents and media stories, we have had several confirmed or probable cases in students across the district.

We are continuing to sanitize classrooms, cafeterias, and restrooms in all of our school daily, and we are emphasizing good hand-washing for everyone, too. That is the best way to prevent the spread of the bacteria. The sickness causes diarrhea, abdominal cramps and high fever, and health department officials recommend you see a doctor right away if you or a family member has these symptoms. We are also reminding parents to keep their students at home if they are sick or showing these symptoms. Kids should remain at home until they have a doctors' note to return or have been symptom free for at least 24 hours. Thank you for your help with this!
