Sign up now for Lemonade Day

A lemonade stand is simplest of business models, the start-up of choice for generations of children. It can also provide powerful lessons on becoming an entrepreneur!

On October 3 Complex Community Federal Credit Union and Town Square Media are bringing Lemonade Day to Odessa. It is a free, community-wide event designed to teach kids how to start and operate their own business. Students across ECISD have been hearing about this event and you can help in a variety of ways. Students who want to participate can get a packet at their school, at CFCCU, or register at www.odessa.lemonadeday.org. The goal is to have 100 lemonade stands city-wide on the 3rd!

An eye to the future (the follow up)

With an eye toward the future - and a couple of big housing developments that are in the works - ECISD Trustees voted unanimously to purchase two parcels of land in northeast Ector County. The action came during the September 15 school board meeting.

The larger yellow square is 100 acres at the northwest corner of Faudree & Yukon and could one day be used for a middle school and a high school. The smaller blue square is 18.8 acres at the northwest corner of P Bar Ranch Road and Aaron Parker Blvd and could be the site of a future elementary school.
Trustees adopt new, lower tax rate

Also on September 15 Trustees unanimously approved a 2015-16 tax rate of $1.15 per hundred dollars valuation, which is slightly lower than last year's tax rate of $1.161.

A school district's tax rate is broken down into two parts: Maintenance & Operations (M&O) which provides the funding for day-to-day operations; and Interest & Sinking, also called Debt Service, which provides the funding for debt payments. For 2015-16, Trustees approved an M&O rate of $1.04 (the same as last year) and an I&S rate of $.11 for a total tax rate of $1.15.

World Class Leader in Education

Yvonne Espinoza is one of our police officers currently assigned as an elementary rover, meaning she has a group of schools she checks on every day. Officer Espinoza boasts 25-years of experience in law enforcement, with 23 of those as an ECISD Police Officer. She is the District's senior-most officer. In her career she has worked at elementary schools, junior highs, and high schools. She is also a Gang Resistance Education and Training Instructor.

Officer Espinoza is highly-respected and well-liked among her fellow officers and our campus administrators. She strives to be a valuable team member, and to help in any way she can. One of her strengths is her ability to communicate effectively - with principals, with teachers, with parents, and particularly with students. It goes beyond just duties as a law enforcement officer to helping kids realize their need to achieve in school. She has impacted countless students, many of whom have come back to tell her how much they appreciate her helping them through difficult times, and that she made a difference in their lives.

Officer Espinoza serves as an experienced leader in the ECISD police department; a mentor who offers guidance and help whenever called upon by fellow officers and district staff. She is an invaluable team member; she is called a "true professional" by her colleagues; and she epitomizes the dedication and excellence we want to see in our school district officers. Congratulations, Yvonne!
