School's back in session!
August 24 marked the first day of the 2015-16 school year - except at Odessa HS and Permian HS, which are delayed for two weeks due to construction projects. It also marked the opening of five new Ector County ISD schools, two early college high schools and three new elementary schools.

At Buice Elementary School, one of the three new campuses, it was a true celebration with a red carpet, balloon arch, music, mascots, giveaways, and photo spots for parents to capture memories.
Enrollment Stays Steady

After three years of very fast growth, student enrollment appears to be holding steady this year. A completely accurate picture will not be available until after September 8 when OHS and PHS start again but through the first week our student count Pre-K through 8th grade is within 100-200 student from this time a year ago.
Traffic changes to impact OHS

When Odessa HS resumes classes in two weeks there will be some traffic changes in place. The map shows a few changes approved by the Odessa City Council earlier this month. The biggest changes are the One Way directions now in place in the front of the school.

The Education Foundation needs you!

Usborne Books has a goal to raise $5,000 in donations which would allow the Education Foundation to purchase books for one of our literacy projects. BONUS - EDC Publishing will match 50% of donations, which means if we meet our goal we will have $7,500! Help spread the word by sharing the below link to your friends, colleagues, and family members. Every gift, regardless of the amount, is appreciated and recognized as an investment in our community and young people.

The Education Foundation will use the books received towards the Home Library Giveaway program that will provide 50 low-income families in ECISD with a bookshelf filled with books in the spring. An ECISD Reading Coach will work with these families to promote family reading and increase the likelihood of academic reading success.

You can make individual donations online at: http://www.youcaring.com/education-foundation-407916.

Thank you for your continued support of the Education Foundation and the students in ECISD!
Iron Rockets deliver!

It's the Iron Rockets Motorcycle Club with students and staff members of Murry Fly Elementary this afternoon. The Iron Rockets were looking for a school to support and chose Fly...the club gathered donations from businesses and held a bake sale - yes, that's what I said - at Family Power Sports a couple of weeks ago. We really appreciate their work for our schools; you'll find a few more pictures of the delivery on our Facebook page.
