Accountability Ratings released
On Friday morning Superintendent of Schools Tom Crowe hosted a press conference to talk about the 2015 Accountability Ratings, which were released by the Texas Education Agency the same day. Right from the start he stated these ratings are not good enough, and while talking about the challenges he also took time to congratulate several schools for strong performances.

You can find a summary of the ratings and his press conference at this link.

Regional Teacher of the Year

For the second year in a row Ector County ISD can boast of having the Region 18 Secondary Teacher of the Year. This year the choice is Cheryl Cunningham, a 23-year veteran of ECISD, who teaches Family & Consumer Sciences (specifically the teacher prep courses) at the ATC at New Tech Odessa.

Cheryl is pictured with her husband, Bill, in June when she was named ECISD's Secondary Teacher of the Year. She will be honored at the Region 18 Education Service Center on October 14, and again in Austin by the Texas Education Agency on October 15 & 16. As a regional teacher of the year, Mrs. Cunningham is now in the running for the state teacher of the year, a contest sponsored annually by the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Building the team first

As the new school year begins, ECISD schools (and some departments) are holding several team-building days filled with activities and games meant to help the staff members get to know each other and foster relationships. At the direction of Superintendent Crowe these days are not to focus on school work or curriculum.

These are just a couple of photos from Thursday, when the Odessa High School faculty and staff sacked more than 6,200 meals for kids in the Food 2 Kids program. The day featured some 150 members of the OHS team working together to help provide meals for students to take home on weekends, something that directly helps elementary age students in ECISD. They also turned Furr's "Red" at their Team Building Luncheon!

No time to slow down

The summer months are usually pretty slow for high school athletics but a big announcement came out of Permian High School this week when Lady Panther Nikole Halladay-Meth signed a Division I letter of intent to run for the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio. She is the second PHS female athlete to sign to a Division I offer this year.

Her's is a really good story, one that you can read here.
