One more meeting for UTPB Early College High School

Parents of 8th-grade students have one more chance to learn about the new STEM-focused Early College High School at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Thursday, May 28, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the UTPB Library officials from the university and from ECISD will present information and answer questions.

The school, housed completely on the UTPB campus, will open next year with 100 freshmen and grow by one class each year until it is a four-year high school. Students who attend will have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits by the time they graduate from high school. And it is free!

Trustees approve raises for next year

At their May meeting ECISD Trustees voted 7-0 to approve salary schedules for 2015-16. Teachers (counselors, nurses, and media specialists) will receive their $500 Step plus another $500 ($1,000 total); and employees not on the Teacher Pay Schedule will receive a 2% raise based on the mid-point of their salary range.

The school board also voted to keep for next year the $3,000 retention incentive for teachers, and the $800 retention incentive for classroom aides. Trustees also approved a new retention incentive of $300 that will be given to all paraprofessionals & certified nurse assistants.

New Trustee welcomed to the Board

The school board meeting on May 19 marked the changing of the guard for school board position 1. Luis Galvan did not seek re-election after serving on the board from 2010-2015. Superintendent Crowe thanked Mr. Galvan for his service and presented him with the "Extra Mile" award for his dedication to our district.

Moments later Ector County Judge Susan Redford gave the oath of office to Mr. Galvan's replacement, Carol Gregg (on the right.) Mrs. Gregg is a former Trustee who is returning for second stine on the school board. Also sworn in at the same time were current Trustees Dr. Ray Beaty and Dr. Donna Smith, both of whom ran for re-election and were unopposed.
