National Teacher Appreciation Week

We want to thank all of our teachers and our substitute teachers who work so hard for our kids each day! When you get a chance, please tell them how much you appreciate them! Or visit our Ector County ISD Facebook page and tell us about your favorite teacher!

National Merit Scholars

Earlier in the spring semester two Odessa High School students, Lindsay Helferich and Varun Vemulapalli, learned they had earned the prestigious distinction of National Merit Scholar Finalist!

It is a huge accomplishment and means they are among 15,000 (top 1%) of the approximately 1.5 million students nationwide who took the PSAT in the fall of their junior year. Early this year, as seniors, they received word their scores had earned them the honor of NMS Semifinalist. After that notification they had to complete an application, keep a consistently very high academic record, write an essay, be endorsed and recommended by a school official, and earn an SAT score confirming the PSAT/NMS performance.

Congratulations to both students, their parents, and their teachers! Well done!

State Champs Go for More

In March these two groups of Permian High School students captured state championships through Business Professionals of America.

The second picture is Brock Young, Tate Thompson, Kade Davis, and Callie James (not pictured) who won the state contest Website Design Team. Both teams are at the National BPA contest and conference vying for larger trophies! Good luck!!!

Lots of Reasons to Celebrate

What a scene on April 28 at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center for the 8th Annual AVID Celebration! The theater was packed with students from our AVID program, their parents and families, our AVID teachers, administrators, and community folks. Nationally known motivational speaker and singer Jared Campbell spoke and talked about "making the future bright" by overcoming obstacles to chase your dreams! He told the kids to use the resources available to them through AVID - teachers, tutors, friends - and to accomplish big things. We invite you to read more about this Celebration, the AVID program, and its tremendous impact on ECISD by visiting this album on our Facebook page.

Early Release Day Coming Soon

The final Early Release Day is just two weeks away, on May 22. Just like the ones earlier this year elementary schools will dismiss at noon and secondary schools at 1:30 p.m. Parents of Pre-K students should call their child's campus to check the day's schedule.
