Early Release Day Next Week

This is an important reminder for parents - we have another Early Release Day coming up next week - Friday, April 17. This means all elementary students will be dismissed for the day at noon, and all secondary students will be dismissed for the day at 1:30 p.m. Faculty and staff members will use the afternoon for a half-day of professional development. If your child attends day pre-kindergarten please contact the school for details of how that will be handled.

There will be one more Early Release Day after this one, on May 22.

Bringing Life to the Lessons

Jon & Pamela Voelkel are the author-illustrators of the popular book series The Jaguar Stones, and they made their first visit to West Texas on Tuesday as they entertained and inspired our 3rd & 4th grade GT students. These GT students have been studying pre-Columbian cultures, learning many interesting details about the Maya, Inca, and Aztec cultures, and reading The Jaguar Stones books. The opportunity to meet the Voeklels and hear about their adventures served to reinforce the lessons already learned.

"To have the Voelkels come and speak was such a wonderful extension of the learning that has occurred in our GT classrooms across the district," said GT teacher Johnna Rosson. See more pictures and read more about this fantastic learning opportunity on our Ector County ISD Facebook page.
