Early Release Day on Friday

This is an important reminder for parents - we will have an Early Release Day this Friday. This means all elementary students will be dismissed for the day at noon, and all secondary students will be dismissed for the day at 1:30 p.m. Faculty and staff members use the afternoon for a half-day of professional development. If your child attends -day pre-kindergarten please contact the school for details of how that will be handled.

This will be the first of three Early Release days in the spring semester. The others are April 17 and May 22.

5 Students Earn Prestigious Honor

For the second year in a row five of our Ector County ISD students earned the prestigious title of Texas All State Musician from the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). It is a designation that goes to only the top 2% of some 60,000 high school music students who enter the rigorous audition process, and it is not a stretch to say it is the highest individual honor a student can achieve for music. Find out more about each of these very talented kids by visiting our Ector County ISD Facebook page.

Hero Award

Congratulations to John Carroll, assistant band director at Permian High School, for being awarded the Marcia McEntyre Zoffuto Hero Award. This award is given annually to outstanding music directors in West Texas. He was nominated by his colleagues and he will receive the award in the spring semester at a Midland/Odessa Symphony concert at the Noel-Wagner Performance Center. Way to go Mr. Carroll!!!

100 days!

Schools across the district celebrated 100 days of school last Thursday & the event seemed to magically transform a bunch of our students and teachers into centenarians over night! This picture is from Carver Early Education Center. The students and teachers who had been in attendance for 100 days were recognized; parents and their kids worked together to make posters of 100 items. A big thanks to the Odessa HS Wild Bunch who celebrated with them!

Giving the Gift of Reading

The Education Foundation continued its Home Library Giveaway on Tuesday afternoon when Foundation members gave 10 families at Ross Elementary their own personal home library. The intent of Home Library Giveaway grant is to raise student reading levels, promote family reading, develop a greater appreciation for literature, and increase the likelihood of academic reading success. Families are by the ECISD reading specialists at four schools. Each family receives age-appropriate books (in both English and Spanish as necessary) for students and adults as well as a bookcase for storage. Students also receive a gift card to buy books of their own choosing at the school's fall book fair.

The Education Foundation continues its commitment to partner with ECISD and other groups to live out its mission in being a catalyst for opportunity through education. It commits itself in getting ECISD students work-ready, college-ready...WORLD READY.
