Closed for the holiday!

ECISD will be closed from November 24-28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Have a safe holiday!

Trustees Approve "Grandfathering" for Next Year

When ECISD transitions to a middle school grade alignment in August 2015, the 5th and 8th graders - this year's 4th and 7th graders - will have the option to stay at their current elementary or middle school campus if they are re-zoned to a new school. The school board approved this measure at its meeting on November 18.

The district will not provide transportation for students who choose to stay at their current campus, and younger siblings must move to their new school.

If you would like to see the new boundary maps they are available on our ECISD website http://www.ectorcountyisd.org/Page/2818

The "Voice of Ratliff Stadium"

Jerry Lovell spent 32 years - that's some 800 games - as the public address announcer at Ratliff Stadium. He is retiring this year and last Friday night ECISD and athletic director Todd Vesely (pictured right) honored Jerry with a presentation on the field before the Panthers' playoff game against Arlington Sam Houston. A permanent sign will be placed in the PA booth at Ratliff Stadium to commemorate Jerry's work through the years!

Our New Partner

On November 19 representatives from SM Energy presented a big check (size & amount) of $7,500 to support the Robotics Program at Bonham Junior High. Robotics teacher Nanette Kelton said the money, which came through the company's grant program, will help her to gradually replace all of their older model robots with newer ones that have more memory, are faster, have different sensors, and upgraded software. New robots will put Bonham's program on equal footing with other schools it competes against. "It is a huge amount of money," said Ms. Kelton. "It doesn't sound like that much - $360 each - but we have 50 robots."

Connie Greenlee from SM Energy said the company certainly hopes to inspire students to consider an energy-related career. "Maybe it will pique their interest in math, science, and technology and they would go on to college and maybe major in engineering or geology. We're hoping they remember SM Energy."

Bonham's program and UTPB will be hosting a robotics competition for schools across the region on December 5.

These two pictures come from Gale Pond Alamo Elementary & Milam Elementary. They are gift baskets from the two schools to each of the seven campuses that are going through the reconstitution process right now. Staff at Alamo and Milam donated items to baskets which were delivered on Friday. It is meant to encourage, and offer some well wishes before the holiday. What a great show of heart from the folks at Alamo & Milam!
