Trustees Approve News Boundaries

On October 21 ECISD school board members approved the first significant boundary changes in 25 years. The new boundary lines will go into effect with the next school year. The changes create neighborhood attendance zones for all elementary schools and middle schools, eliminating the existing "bus zones" that move kids across town. The high school boundaries will not change.

For a look at the newly approved boundaries, please CLICK HERE. Individual school maps for the middle schools will be available soon.

National Merit Scholars

We are pleased to introduce 7 outstanding students honored through the National Merit Scholarship Program.

This is a huge honor and tremendous accomplishment for these kids.

Of the more than 250,000 Hispanic students who took the PSAT test as a junior only 5,000 - or the top 2% -- are awarded National Merit Hispanic honors.

Of the 1.5 million students who took the exam only the top 34,000 earn Commended Scholar status.

Of those same 1.5 million students only 16,000 are named National Merit Semi-finalists. Lindsay and Varun are among that elite group and will find out later in the year if they ultimately are named Finalists!

From left to right they are: Permian High School's Rodolfo De la Cruz (National Hispanic Merit Scholar), New Tech Odessa's Alejandra Davila (National Hispanic Merit Scholar), Odessa High School's Lindsay Helferich (National Merit Semi-finalist), Ashika Angirekula (National Merit Commended Scholar), Daniel Wilk (National Merit Commended Scholar), Varun Vemulapalli (National Merit Semi-finalist), and Nithin Shakamuri (National Merit Commended Scholar.)

CCFCU is good as gold!

Complex Community Federal Credit Union is one of ECISD's great Partners in Education, and we're thrilled the State Board of Education recognizes it, too!

On October 17 the SBOE named Complex Community one of 10 Texas businesses as the 2014 Employers for Education Excellence (EEE). When you look at everything CCFCU does for our schools, it is easy to see why it was selected. Since 2008, CCFCU in Odessa has actively supported Ector County ISD financial support, providing motivational speakers, gifts for teachers, and volunteering in schools. In fact, Credit union staff have taught, in total, more than 2,700 hours to 4,900 ECISD students in the areas of budgeting, check writing, savings and investments, FAFSA, and setting college goals.

The EEE Awards are given in three categories - Gold, Silver and Bronze. For the 2014 award just six companies received a gold award and CCFCU was one of them! You can read more about the State Board's EEE Awards HERE

Giving Back

ECISD Career and Technology Health Science students made 75 Christmas trees for Home Hospice. This project gave our students the opportunity to give back to the community, and it will continue with the kids baking 70 DOZEN cookies for Home Hospice in the coming weeks. Well done!

Flashback Friday...

One month ago Jordan Elementary was left without water due to a water line break. The school had to make quick arrangements for lunches and bathrooms. Through the two-day episode the staff kept a great attitude, as is apparent by this photo. It's one of our favorites of the year so far!
