Sam's Club Show Teachers Appreciation

On October 9 Sam's Club of Odessa celebrated Teacher Appreciation by presenting the teachers at San Jacinto Elementary School with $1,000 in reward cards. The teachers can use the cards for school or classroom purchases. This is the sixth year in a row for this Walmart Teacher Appreciation program. We really appreciate Sam's Club's commitment to education in Odessa!

You can see an album of pictures from this presentation on our Ector County ISD Facebook page.

Her Texas

We want to celebrate one of our veteran teachers - Reagan Elementary music teacher Loretta Walker. She is not only a teacher but a talented writer who has published two collections of poetry, a manuscript entitled Word Ghetto that won the 2011 Bluelight Press Book Award, and another book forthcoming.

She's recently been selected as one of the 60 women to be featured in an upcoming anthology entitled "Her Texas," an accumulation of poets, writers, and musicians. You will find her profiled on the Her Texas Facebook page. The anthology is on schedule to be published in March.

With the support of her family, friends, coworkers and students, Ms. Walker has spent the last year fighting breast cancer. On September 20, 2014, she put on her first pink survivor's cap. This battle is reflected in the poetry she has contributed to Her Texas. She calls her inclusion in this project, "A huge, huge honor.  HER TEXAS FB page
