Enrollment Continues to Climb

Our booming local economy shows no signs of slowing when it comes to its impact on our school district. The student enrollment as of September 11th reached an all-time high of 32,008. That is about 1,200 more students that we had at this same time last year.

We continue to work diligently to hire new teachers, teachers' aides, maintenance staff, and bus drivers.

Hays Elementary teacher finalist in state program

Stephanie Green, a 1st-grade teacher at Hays Magnet Elementary School, is one of three finalists for the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). Stephanie was entered into the state-wide contest after being named the Region 18 Elementary Teacher of the Year. The state winner will be announced in October.

Stephanie is a 13-year veteran teacher who taught Special Education, 1st-grade, 2nd-grade, and 3rd-grade in eleven years at Dowling Elementary before moving to Hays in August 2012.

ECISD was proud to have both of the Region 18 teachers of the year this year, as Video Technology/Digital Graphics & Imaging teacher Candy Thompson was awarded the Secondary Teacher of the Year honors. Read more about both of these outstanding ladies!!! Link.

New boundary lines are up for discussion

In August of 2015, we will open three new elementary schools - the first in 25 years - and high school additions that will allow us to change to a middle school grade alignment. They are big changes that will be accompanied by changes to the school boundary lines.

School district officials hosted two community meetings this week and will host two more, Monday, September 15, at Bonham Junior High at 6:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 18, at Ector Junior High also at 6:00 p.m.

You can see the boundary change proposals on our Ector County ISD website.  More Info.

Convocation is a celebration!

The new school year began with a celebration called Convocation. All district employees gathered at the Ector County Coliseum for a welcome message from Superintendent of Schools Tom Crowe & a crucial message from internationally known speaker Dr. Rick Rigsby. Dr. Rigsby is the author of the book Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout, and his message focused on making an impact on students every day, not just an impression. He emphasized, "Good is not good enough if it can be better, and better is not good enough if it can be best."
