A Review of Stars for the STAAR
Third graders helping their peers review for tests

San Jacinto's fifth grade students walked into their science STAAR test a bit more confident thanks to their third grade peers.  San Jacinto's third graders just finished learning about the solar system and in the spirit of teamwork, they offered a review of the solar system for the entire fifth grade class. Great work, San Jacinto!

Collecting second highest amount ever

What does 34,693 pounds of food look like? It was on display April 23 at the ECISD School Nutrition Warehouse when the school district handed over that amount along with more than $2,600 in cash to the West Texas Food Bank. The 34,693 pounds was the second highest total ever for ECISD, and translates to more than 27,000 meals for the food bank.

Austin Elementary won the award for the top food-raising elementary school with 4,870 pounds (a whopping 9.8 pounds/student!), and Permian High School took the top honors for secondary schools with 4,185 pounds.

Each year in April ECISD's School Nutrition sponsors this food drive to help stock the West Texas Food Bank for the summer months when school is out and demand for meals increases. See pictures of the Cans for Kids food drive, on ECISD's Facebook page.

ECISD students become archaeologists for a day

Thanks to an Education Foundation grant and the Hurt Ranch, first and second grade Gifted and Talented students spent the afternoon of April 24, digging for artifacts.

Any artifacts found will be taken back to the school where the students will hypothesize about its origin and uses.  What an awesome hands-on science project!
