The latest in medical technology stops at Odessa High

Odessa High School science classes got an opportunity to "test drive" this unique robot that specializes in microscopic, minimally invasive surgeries.  Dr. Artun Aksade, an Odessa general surgeon, was on hand to teach students how to operate the robotic arms using just their forefinger, thumb and foot pedals.

To view more pictures of the robot, and to get the full story visit the ECISD Facebook page and website.

A  new spin on "active monitoring"

While students spent their school days taking STAAR tests, Coach Cynthia Fisher at Milam Elementary devised a special challenge for the staff.  The competition- to see who truly was the most "active" STAAR monitor.

Equipped with pedometers, the teachers continued their usual testing routines and the results surprised everyone. At the end of the two testing days, they collectively walked over 185,000 steps, equaling to 80.44 miles!  With a second round of testing approaching, how far will our STARR monitors walk?

A hefty goal for a great cause

ECISD's School Nutrition Department along with the West Texas Food Bank are hosting their 11th annual Cans For Kids.  All of the canned food will go to the food bank to help them get through the summer months when their demand increases as a result of west Texas children no longer spending their days in school.

Last year, the district raised an impressive 60,000 pounds of food, let's see how much more we can get this year!  To donate, drop off your canned goods at an ECISD school now until April 18.

A campus tradition continues

Since 2008 the students, parents and staff at Lamar Early Education Center have taken their fundraising efforts above and beyond the norm.  Every year since 2008, the campus has won the "Hats off Award" for being the top fundraising organization in all of Odessa for their support of the March of Dimes.

In 2013, they raised over $25,000 and are planning to meet and possibly even surpass that amount this year!  Awesome job Lamar!
