Lone finalist named in superintendent search
Interim Tom Crowe selected by board

In a special meeting on Monday, December 2, ECISD's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Mr. Tom Crowe the lone finalist for the position of superintendent of schools.

Mr. Crowe has been serving as the District's interim superintendent since late August. Having extensive experience with rapidly growing school districts he is eager to bring his unique leadership style to our schools. Through the services of Executive School Consulting, Inc., the Board brought Mr. Crowe to Odessa as the interim superintendent, and after reviewing some 200 applications it became evident to Trustees no other candidate boasted the combination of skills, training, and experience Mr. Crowe possesses.

By law the school board must wait 21 days to enter into a contract with him. During this time details will be negotiated. ECISD feels very fortunate to have found Mr. Crowe, and we look forward to growing and improving our district under his leadership.
Tug-of-war for science!
Lessons don't get much more hands-on than this...

Mr. Basse and Ms. Fulton, 8th-grade science teachers at Crockett Junior High, came up with a fun -- and very "hands on" -- approach to teaching Newton's Laws of Motion. Students practiced using the forces themselves with a classic game of tug-of-war!

Permian junior tabbed for volleyball honor

Jordan Williams, a junior at Permian High School,  earned a huge honor when she was recently  named to the 5A All-State Volleyball Team. Jordan is one of only six juniors on the state-wide forty-girl roster. The All-State team is selected by the Texas Girls Coaches' Association.

She is a three-year starter for Permian. Head coach Gillian Danley said, "Jordan is a competitor and a student of the game...she has developed into one of the most talented athletes in the state of Texas."

Congratulations, Jordan!
'Tis the season!
Schools give back to our community

While our school district counts on community support to achieve our mission, countless ECISD students and staff volunteer their time and efforts to ensure a happy and memorable holiday season for others.

ECISD's annual United Way campaign raised more than $84,000 for the agencies and programs under the UW umbrella. Our VIPS (Volunteers in Public Schools) hosted a Pop Tart drive to benefit Food 2 Kids. The Empty Bowl event co-spoonsored by Odessa High School brought in over $6,000 for the West Texas Food Bank. And the students at Blackshear Elementary (pictured below) collected 254 coats for local children as part of the Coats for Kids effort!

This represents only a fraction of the annual outreach efforts made by our students and staff who enjoy giving back to our generous community.
Veterans' Day affairs
Schools celebrate our military heroes

As we took time to honor our country's veterans in November, Ross Elementary participated in the national "Take a Veteran to School" program. The History Channel began this effort in 2007 and Ross, with the help of our local CableOne office, has taken part in it for several years. The goal is to the connect the generations and help students learn about the past and our veterans. At the afternoon assembly Ross students posed questions to a panel of veterans from various branches of the military.

There are lots of pictures from our Veterans' Day activities on our  Ector County ISD Facebook page.

Thanks to Robert Young of CableOne for the outstanding photo (below) from the Ross assembly!
