School board discusses superintendent vacancy
Board moves closer to finding a new leader

The Board of Trustees held a special meeting during lunch on Monday, November 25. The only item on the agenda was the discussion of the superintendent search. Trustees spent about 90 minutes in closed session consulting with Dr. Mike Moses and Mr. David Thompson of the search firm School Executive Consulting, Inc. There were no action items on the agenda and the meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.

After the meeting members of the school board talked with local reporters about the search process. Trustees said the search firm collected names of potential candidates and they reviewed a number of those closely. They are looking for candidates who embody the qualities and characteristics Trustees and community members have said they want in a superintendent. The discussion helped narrow the board's focus, and Trustees added they will be looking to schedule another meeting after Thanksgiving break.

2 honored by community

Two of our ECISD teachers earned praise from the community recently.

On the left is reading coach Lynn Whisenhunt with Odessa College President Dr. Gregory Williams. OC honored Lynn with one of its OC Honors Awards for service to our city through education.

On the right is Susan Butler - who works with our visually impaired students - after receiving the Fay Smith Spirit Award from Medical Center Health System for her volunteer work as a clown at the hospital. Yes, a clown. Tinker the Clown to be precise. Congratulations to Susan & Lynn!

Energy savings continues to grow
Energy Specialists give update at November meeting

At the school board meeting on November 19 our energy specialists presented the school board with a ceremonial check for $1.6 million, the amount of energy & utility savings the District has seen since beginning the energy education program 18 months

ago.

The program is provided through a company called Cenergistic, and provides proven guidelines for heating and cooling our buildings (among other cost-saving activities) in order to reduce electric and utilities costs. Last summer alone, these guidelines helped individual schools anywhere from 50-75% on their energy costs. Good work, ECISD team!

Mickey writes back!
4th grade students at Zavala Elementary studied letter writing last month and as a final project wrote and mailed letters to their favorite Disney characters. Much to their surprise, they received a response. Each student got a letter from Mickey Mouse and a postcard with pictures of Disney characters. Who knew Mickey's penmanship was so good?!
Happy Thanksgiving!
All ECISD schools will be closed from November 21-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Administration Building will be open Monday & Tuesday but closed the rest of the week. Have a safe and happy holiday!
