ECISD interim hired by Tucson

On June 28, the Tucson (Arizona) Unified School District school board unanimously approved a three-year contract to hire ECISD interim superintendent Dr. H.T. Sanchez. The contract will reportedly pay him a base salary of $210,000 each year plus incentives.

The ECISD Board of Trustees is in the early stages of a search for a new superintendent after Hector Mendez announced his retirement in late March.
More dreams fulfilled

Congratulations to the 60 or so high school seniors who walked the stage during Summer Graduation on June 28. These are kids from Odessa High School & Permian High School who were determined enough to spend the month in summer school making up the work that kept them from graduation ceremonies at the end of the school year. Good work!

 Summer Bridge
One of the summer enrichment classes offered each year is the AVID Math Summer Bridge Program. This course is open to up to 100 students moving from 6th to 7th grade and it focuses on sharpening those math skills that will allow the students to be ready to take on junior high work!

This year's course featued a Survivor theme and the kids were broken into tribes to tackle various math challenges and college readiness activities. Prizes were awarded to the top students in each tribe and to the most improved students. Incoming Bonham 7th-grader Nayeli Diaz (holding the yellow bag) won the perfect attendance drawing for a new Kindle!

A big thank you to Odessa College for hosting this for us!
PHS principal promoted
Permian High School principal Roy Garcia was promoted to assistant superintendent of secondary operations meaning he will oversee all of the District's junior highs and high schools.

PHS Roy Garcia
Mr. Garcia is a 21-year veteran of ECISD and served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal. The search for a new principal at PHS is underway.
