Graduation by the numbers |
Congratulations to the Class of 2013! On June 7, 607 seniors from Odessa High School walked the stage at Ratliff Stadium. That group earned about $4.3 million in scholarships and financial offers. Go Bronchos!
The next night 645 seniors from Permian High School moved those tassels from left to right! The PHS class was awarded about $3.7 million in scholarships and financial offers. Go MOJO!
These are a couple of our favorite shots from graduation but there are photo albums from the both ceremonies on our Ector County ISD Facebook page. Drop by there and "Like" your favorites, if you haven't already!

Graduation requirements changed |
High school students no longer have the weight of 15 state exams hanging over their heads in order to graduate.
On June 10 Governor Rick Perry signed House Bill 5 into law. That bill reduces from 15 to 5 the number of STAAR End of Course exams required to graduate from high school. The five EOC exams are English I, English II, Algebra I, biology, and U.S. history. Students must pass these state tests, and of course, all of their classes - in order to earn their high school diploma.
HB 5 also revamps high school graduation plans, doing away with the Minimum, Recommended, and Distinguished diploma plan for a new Foundation Plan. This change does not begin until the 2014-15 school year.
In all cases, we ask parents to visit with their child's principal and counselor if you have questions about any of these changes and how they may affect your child. |

Let's Move |
In May Ector Junior High and the Dance Team sponsored the "Let's Move" initiative for the third year. Students wore white T-Shirts and the Let's Move Sticker. Blue skies and warm sunshine were out in full support of the new dance moves performed. The Dance Initiative is sponsored in part by Michelle Obama and a number of other organizations to promote a healthy awareness of the benefit of exercise. |
