Bond logo

We invite you to take a moment to click the Bond 2012 logo and view the concept drawing for our three new elementary schools. It includes the idea of a grade level hub rather than a hallway to give each grade more space and flexibility. Contractors have also been approved for the bond projects.

Blackshear's Phillips named AP of the Year

Congratulations to Becky Phillips, from BlackshearBecky Phillips

Elementary, on being named the Region 18 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). Becky is a 21 year veteran of ECISD having worked as a teacher, counselor, AP at Goldsmith Elementary, Ector Junior High, and Bowie Junior, and now Blackshear. She has also worked in Lubbock ISD and Fort Worth ISD. In fact, she was chosen as the TEPSA Region 18 junior high assistant principal of the year in 2007. This peer-based award recognizes assistant principals for their commitment to student learning as evidenced by exceptional school leadership. Becky and the other honorees will be recognized at the TEPSA Awards Celebration Reception on Wednesday, June 12, in Austin.

Nimitz student earns trip to D.C.

Congratulations also go to Nimitz Junior High's Blake Dominguez whose "Do the Write Thing" essay has earned him an all-expenses Blake Dominguezpaid trip to Washington D.C. in July to see his essay published in the Library of Congress! "Do the Write Thing" is an annual contest that asks 7th-graders to write about the effects of violence in their lives and in society and possible ways to eliminate it. Blake will represent ECISD and the Permian Basin as a student ambassador against violence with many other kids from across the country! Nice work, Blake!

Awards for Excellence
The Awards for Excellence is an annual banquet held to honor 36 of our top students. The honorees are chosen by the teachers in their academic field, and then are recognized during a gala that includes their parents, their favorite teacher, community sponsors, and school district officials. Misty May Treanor
On May 1 the Ector Junior High 7th & 8th grade girls athletic banquet included the usual introductions and awards but the keynote speaker brought something special - one of her three Olympic Gold Medals. Beach volleyball star Misty May-Treanor, who teamed with Kerri Walsh to win gold medals in each of the last three Olympics, not only spoke to the group but spent quite some time taking questions from the crowd, which included a number of people from around West Texas, even some members of the Texas Tech University volleyball team who drove from Lubbock that night.

May-Treanor, who is pictured above wearing the red dress and posing with the Ector girls' coaches, talked to the kids about making a commitment and sticking to it; about setting goals and making choices that will help you achieve those goals; and being confident and believing in themselves.
