Doing the iPod Shuffle

Regular attendance at school is a must for success in the classroom. One of our school district's newest efforts to encourage attendance is a drawing for iPod Shuffles. Each student with perfect attendance each week got their name placed in the drawing which took place after the first six-week period in this second semester. Each grade level had one winner.

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss

Dr. SeussEarlier in March schools all across our district celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Our Food Service Department jumped in by serving green eggs and ham and the kids loved it! At Carver Early Education Center our littlest learners also played games and activities - like pin the hat on the cat - that tied in with the celebration.

IB students battle hunger

Richard Rodriguez, an Odessa High School senior in the International Baccalaureate program, hosted a Thirty Hour Famine to help raise awareness of hunger, both worldwide and in our own community. It also served as a benefit for the West Texas Food Bank. This was a self-initiated project that he completed as part of his IB Diploma requirements. The images they painted were an activity in which students put 8,000 fingerprints on poster boards representing the 8,000 children that die every day from hunger related causes.
