Bond news update

Work continues on the bond projects approved last November. The architecture firms are close to finishing the design concepts for the three projects. Once completed, those will be placed on the ECISD web page for you to review.

The District is keeping track of each milestone on the way to completing these projects. You can keep up with the happenings by clicking on the Bond 2012 icon here or on the ECISD home page.

 The wedding of the century!

Q&U Get Married

Kindergarten students at Burnet Elementary celebrated Valentine's Day by attending a very special wedding in the school's cafeteria. The letters Q&U, T&H, S&H, W&H, P&H, and C&H were married, illustrating how they come together to make one sound! It is important for young students to be able to recognize these blended sounds. It helps in spelling and, ultimately, recognizing words and reading.

A reception and Valentine's party followed; RSVP was not required.

Trout Fishing at Milam Elementary

You would never know by the name that Trout Fishing in America is rolling across the country helping kids learn to write. Really. For the second year in a row these two men selected Milam Elementary and its visual and fine arts magnet as one of the stops on their school tour. There's more to read here!

Sixth-graders need updated shots

Immunization

Friday, March 8, ECISD nurses will be hosting three shot clinics to give immunizations to students who are in 6th grade right now. Texas law requires that all incoming 7th graders show proof of three separate vaccinations when they start school in August.

These early shot clincs allow parents to avoid the lines that invariably come up when summer registrations begins.

The shot clinics will take place from 8:30-11:00 a.m. at three locations:

  • Permian High School, 1800 E. 42nd St.
  • Gale Pond/Alamo Elementary, 801 E. 23rd St.
  • Travis Elementary, 1400 S. Lee

The cost will be $5 per shot or free to families who qualify. If you have questions please contact your child's school nurse.
