Dear Athlete!

April brings a completely new set of adventures for us!

Starting on April 13th, there's the Feel the Energy 5K (another Saturday event!).

I've always liked running in the evening when I can (most of my workouts are at 5:30 in the morning) so the Rave Run is a perfect addition to the schedule on Saturday evening, April 20th!

If you're looking for a safe and fun challenge, check out our RunUgly Fitathlon video to learn more about it on Sunday, April 21st at Stapleton (and no, we're not going to make you swim in ice water, burrow in mud or engage you with live wires!).

It's not pretty, but it is FUN!
It's not pretty, but it is FUN!

Before the month is over, it's the Kids Running America event at Wash Park on Sunday morning April 28th!

Several of these events are good prep for our Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon Weekend, May 18-19. The word is out on what some people are already calling "the most awesome half in Denver" that starts at 7am (an hour after the marathon and 5 person relay starts).

We've redesigned the half to include a mile through the Denver Zoo, a station run-through and just possibly a real "live" firefighters calendar exhibit on the course! OK, if you're not up for a half this year then grab four friends (family, business or school cohorts are fine too!) and put together a relay team on the most diverse marathon course in Denver!

If you're excited about the world class runners that have trained and raced here in Colorado, there are still seats available at the Colorado Running Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (top high school athletes will be featured too!) on Wednesday, April 10th at 6pm at the Denver Athletic Club!

On a personal note, I'm up to 3-4 miles every other day. Whatever speed I had has currently vanished, but my love of life is at an all-time high! Renee Hamilton encouraged me to read the recent Parade Magazine article about Robin Roberts  and it was like reading what I had written in my personal diary during chemo. It's a "must" read.

I cherish our sport more than ever. I pray daily for the recovery of Parthenia "Potts" Jones in her brave struggle over cancer. She will still come to some events (she'll be at the Colorado Running Hall of Fame Ceremony) while trying a new experimental chemo treatment.

I'm back to announcing and emceeing events and hit the trail for the Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 Miler this coming weekend. Maybe I'll see you there!

BKB/HALLUCINATION SPORTS ANNOUNCE AMAZING NEW TIMING TECHNOLOGY

BKB and Hallucination Sports announced on Monday, April 1, the latest and greatest in timing technology thanks to more than six years of research and development, they are excited to announce the WTCH1000 individual timing system.

The evolution of timing has changed from the days of the popsicle stick, pull-tag, chip timing on the shoe, and timing on the bib. We know participants want their times quick and to be accurate.  You may see some split timing clocks on a course to help gauge your times officially, and then usually you have to wait a few mins to up to several hours to get your official results.  NO MORE!  The WTCH1000 is a systematic timing device that goes on your wrist.  As soon as you cross the start line, and with the press of a button, you will  see your elapsed and current time (even your pace) on the WTCH 1000.  You will know every second what your official time is. Then when you cross the finish line, just press the button on the WTCH 1000 and you will know your official time.  No more waiting around for results!!!

Click here to see the amazing WTCH 1000!

Fine Print:  If you have not figured it out by now, the WTCH 1000 is just a watch - April Fools!

Run Ugly Fitathlon (dare to be fit, dare for fun) - April. 21

 RunUgly

There are run events, walk events, obstacle events, fitness events, and heck even events where you try to escape zombies! What if you could take all of those and combine them into one great event that is meant for anyone at any fitness level (minus the zombies, we like our brains in our heads!)? We have done just that! The Run Ugly Fitathlon gives runners, walkers, weekend warriors, gyms, fitness programs, etc. the chance to see how well they compare to each other in a fun competitive environment for being Colorado's most fit athlete. We are combining the best current fitness trends have to offer in a unique exciting event with proceeds benefiting the Jack H. Marston II Melanoma Fund.

Start out with a 1 mile run, then (8) fitness stations (with easy to do exercise like push-ups, burpees, etc.) and then finishing off with another 1 mile run. Each participant, just like in a decathlon, will receive performance points for each fitness segment. There will be individual awards and fitness/gym team competitions as well.
