 2014 Youth Media Award Winners Announced!
The American Library Association announced the top books, video and audio books for children and young adults - including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards -  on Wednesday, January 29 in Philadelphia.

Trivia Night is Back!

 

The Friends of the Amherst Town Library is holding their 2nd Annual Trivia Night Fundraiser on Thursday, March 27 at the Amherst Country Club. So if you are looking for an evening of fun, a history buff or an Encyclopedia of Hollywood history then this is the event for you.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the fun begins at 7:00 p.m.  Register as an individual, a couple, or create a team of between 8-10 adults to show off your smarts.  The top team will win a cash prize along with bragging rights.  Prizes that have been generously donated by area business will be raffled off throughout the evening.

 

The cost is $12.00 per player.  Raffle tickets will be available for purchase the night of the event, cost 1.00 per ticket the night of the event.  Proceeds from this event directly support the Friends of the Amherst Town Library program fund which enables them to offer enrichment programs for the Amherst community.  A cash bar and appetizers will be available for purchase.  Registration forms are available at the Library or online . School Vacation Week Activities

Don't sit around bored during school vacation week. The children's room at the library has a lot planned!  We'll be having our 4th annual Winter Vacation in the Tropics, featuring the following activities:

Monday, Feb. 24 at 2PM::  BONJOUR LES KIDS
French Language fun with Madame Thenin.  Songs, rhymes, and activities ending with a simple craft.  For kids ages 4 and up. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Tuesday Feb. 25 at 10AM: MATCHBOX MADNESS!
Drive on down to the Children's Room, where we'll have everything set up to enjoy our collection of matchbox vehicles---roads, tracks, blocks,etc.  If you have some favorites that you want to try out on our tracks, bring them along, but make sure to label them with your name. Space is limited, so please register your child.

Tuesday Feb. 25 at 2PM: TROPICAL SPA 
A special afternoon for girls--- We'll be enjoying a spa experience right here at the library!  Get away from it all, and come in for a tropical facial, nail-painting, and more...For girls ages 8 and up-space is limited, so please register.

Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 2PM: CRITTERS AND CREATURES
Get up close and personal with some tropical animals. Mona, from "Critters and Creatures" in Merrimack, will be introducing us to some creatures that come from the warmer places in the world. Space is limited, so please register online.  For kids ages 5 and up.

Thursday Feb. 27 at 10:30AM: BEACH PARTY---STORIES, SONGS AND SMOOTHIES W/ MISS SUE AND MISS SARAH
Bring a beach towel to sit on, and wear whatever it takes to put you in the island mood---flip flops, sunglasses, shorts?? We'll provide the delicious fruit smoothies and lots of fun!

Thursday Feb. 27 at 2PM: MOVIE MATINEE---Turbo (rated PG)  Bring a water bottle and a pillow, and we'll provide the popcorn and the big screen! Come and join us! No registration required.
 
Friday Feb. 28 at 10:00: DANCE PARTY!
Learn the Limbo!  Do the Hula!! We provide the grass skirts, the refreshing water, and the Island Music----You come and dance! For all ages. No registration required.

ALL WEEK LONG:  MAKE-IT/ TAKE-IT CRAFT
Come in anytime and make your own Ocean Scene with Stick Puppet Fish.
Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!
