Spring Poets: Barbara Allen to Blackbird
Tuesday, April 30 at 7PM

Once upon a time, poetry and song were inseparable. The break up came during the Renaissance. In England, two great Romantic poets, Wordsworth and Coleridge, engineered reconciliation with the publication of Lyrical Ballads in 1798. This radical work merged the ballad form with the plain spoken lyric of the heart. English language poets were freed to feel once again, to sing once again, of common themes in the common tongue.

NHHC Presenter John Perrault brings his guitar to sing and recite a few of the early ballads, plus a line of lyrics from Burns to Wordsworth, Keats, Frost, Dickinson to Dylan, and Mary Oliver to Lennon & McCartney, in a salute to the romantic tradition. Register now.

The Captain Josiah Crosby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in partnership with the Amherst Town Library presents this New Hampshire Humanities Council funded program.

Presenter Carrie Brown, who holds a PhD in American Literature and Folklore from the University of Virginia, explores the technological triumph that helped save the Union and then transformed the nation. After the presentation, all guests are invited to stay for simple refreshments.  A brief business meeting of the DAR will follow and all are welcome to attend.

Registration is required for this program due to space limitations. If you wish further information on the Captain Josiah Crosby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution please contact Helen Tognetti at 603-672-1952.
American Girl Doll Crafting Time 2
Saturday, May 11 @ 10AM-12PM
 American Girl
Last November, we gathered to design and craft "rooms" for our American Girl dolls.  Now, let's get together and craft additional furnishings for these rooms! Among the items Miss Sue Olsen and Miss Sarah have planned: area rugs, kitchen sinks--and there will be more! If you'd like, start saving some recylable items that look promising: toilet paper and paper towel tubes, plastic containers, lids, etc.--and bring them in to share. It's time to get American Girl-crafty!

For girls ages 8 and up. Register here. Please include child's age in the 'name' field when registering.

Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,
