Inspired by Jane
JaneAusten
"Pride and Prejudice" was first published in 1813. Since then, Jane Austen's incomparable work has inspired countless novels and films. Celebrate the 200th anniversary by indulging in some romance, biting social commentary, and of course single men of good fortune.
baseballGreetings!

The crack of a bat is right up there with birdsong as an iconic sound of spring. Get into the spirit and play for our team by checking out one of our books about the history of baseball, baseball legends, or works of fiction featuring baseball.
Read to a Girl Scout
Saturday, April 20 from 10:30AM-12:00PM
  GirlScout
Sign up now for our first annual "Read to a Girl Scout" day! A perfect way for beginning readers to practice their skills, and a wonderful community-service project for our girl scouts to establish for the future. Children can bring a favorite book of their own to read, or choose one from the wonderful collection here at the library.

Come to the Children's Room or call 673-2288 to sign your child up for a 15 minute reading slot- it's a great way to have fun and to support your local Girl Scouts!

For a Limited Time: Streaming Videos

Lucky us! The library was awarded a year free subscription to Filmakers Library Online, a database that has over 1,000 documentaries! These videos can be streamed to your computer, tablet, or smartphone (click here for system requirements).

Filmaker's OnlineTopics include race and gender studies, human rights, globalization, multiculturalism, international relations, criminal justice, the environment, bioethics, health, political science, current events, literature, and more. One cool feature is the synchronized, searchable transcripts for all videos. The diverse ways to browse and search also make it easy to find what you're interested in.

How do you access these videos? If you're not in the library, all you need is a valid library card to sign in. From the database page on the library website, click on Filmakers Library Online. Or you can access it directly through the catalog.

Take advantage of this unique service while it lasts, and let us know what you think!

Old Favorite In Concert
Sunday, April 14 @ 4PM
OldFavorite The Amherst Town Library thanks the Friends of the Amherst Town Library for providing the funding for the Sundays @ 4 concert series!
Shade is Easiest
Tuesday, April 16 @ 7PM

Susan Kierstead will introduce you to many of her favorite plants to make your shade garden lower maintenance and more exciting, so work is minimal and enjoyment unlimited! As Susan says, "If I had only one garden, it would be in the shade."

Susan has gardened in Amherst for almost 40 years, on over 2 acres, both sunny and shady. She has a passion for plants and though her gardens are full, somehow each year more plants get added. Degrees and courses are the basis of her knowledge, but the best part comes with experience gained on hands and knees with dirty hands. She has found that "experts" do not always know what is good for New Hampshire. To her, gardening is a way life.

Registration is required for this program due to space limitations.
Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,

Amherst Town Library
