IRS Announces Tax Forms and Tax Processing DELAYED
tax forms
The Amherst Town Library received the following notification from the IRS on January 8, 2013:

"The production of some 2012 major tax products, including the Form 1040 and the Instructions for Form 1040, is impacted by the recent passage of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 [enacted January 2, 2013].  At this time, we do not have an estimate as to when products will become available on IRS.gov or in print."

Additionally, the IRS announced "it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30."

The Library will offer IRS forms and publications in print as soon as they are delivered to us. Look for our "Tax Table" right next to the copy machine. For those seeking the online option, go to  http://www.irs.gov

Love Letters: The Intimate Correspondence of John & Abigail Adams
Tuesday, February 12 @ 7:30 PM
loveletter

Adams scholars and living-history performers Tom Macy and Patricia Bridgman will present twenty or so letters spanning the early years of John and Abigail Adams' courtship, which began in 1759, to early 1778, when John and son John Quincy sailed to France. The letters feature light-hearted teasing, the joys of children and farm, optimism on the eve of the birth of a nation, and steadfast love and respect for each other. They also reflect human concerns that are familiar today.

The performers remain in character throughout the program and are dressed in historically accurate clothing. The performance will be followed by a question and answer period.

Registration is REQUIRED for this program, due to space limitations.
Shakespeare's Sonnets
Friday, February 1 & Friday, February 15
from 1:00-2:30 PM

Shakespeare

Presented by the very popular Harvard Professor Theoharis C. Theoharis, this series will include a close reading of chosen sonnets and concentrate on love as an experience and love as an idea. Using a lecture and discussion format, the Elizabethan literary conventions and Elizabethan ideas of love, along with Shakespeare's personal transformation of these things, will all be on the menu for an engaging enlightening set of programs. Theoharis will provide a wonderful background to this creative time in English Literature!

Although the series is connected in content, you are welcome to attend one or both parts. There is no required reading, yet you are welcome to check out one of the many collections of Shakespeare's Sonnets that will be on display at the Library beginning January 18. Sign up now.

Seeking Sponors

The Friends of the Amherst Town Library is looking for tax-deductible donations of $100 to sponsor awards for exceptional pieces of art at the 20th annual Student Art Show held at the Amherst Town Library.

The Student Art Show displays works from Amherst and for the first time Mont Vernon students (grades 1st - 12th) at the Amherst Town Library for the entire month of May. Typically there are 500 pieces of art displayed. Families of featured students are invited to a reception on Mother's Day hosted by the Friends of the Library. The reception is well attended with 700 visitors and 9,300 library patrons are estimated to view the show throughout the month of May.

New this year we would like to have 5 local artists jury student artwork submissions and select 15 pieces to receive awards. The awards would take the form of framing the artwork for 2-dimensional media or creating a plaque for 3-dimensional artwork. Businesses and local citizens sponsoring a piece of student artwork would have the opportunity to display the student's artwork they sponsored at their business during the month of June. Followed by a group show of awarded pieces at SAU-39 Superintendent's office in July.

If you are able to donate or have questions, please contact Christine Farris, Friends of the Amherst Town Library Student Art Show Coordinator at Christine.Farris@mac.com

Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,

Amherst Town Library
